Once upon a time, I used to love making jewelry with colorful crystals. But once I learned how bad crystal mining is for our planet, I stopped.
For me, the whole point in creating jewelry is to bring people cheek-to-cheek with nature’s beauty (or I guess, now, ear-to-ear). Knowing they came with serious damage to the Earth--who *ahem* gives us all this beauty--made working with crystals no longer beautiful or true to me.
It's also important to mention that I have been obsessed with growing colorful, landrace corn varieties for a while now.
So in 2020 when my friend shared with me a dream of 'dripping in corn jewelry', I had the answer.
At first, I had no idea if it was even really possible. But I did know two things for certain: one, it didn't exist yet, and two, I was in love with the vision enough to at least try and make it become real.
Fast forward through years of tinkering during COVID, I invented a process for growing, slow-drying over a year, and transforming these corn seeds into living, dripping, wearable gems.
