Jewelry Care

Protect your precious seed jewelry from the elements: sun, water, sweat, babies chewing on them, & baby-making fluids ;)

However, the biggest harm to your jewelry comes from:

  1. chemicals found in shampoo, conditioner, soaps, lotions, and perfumes
  2. water
  3. sun exposure
  4. impact (getting hit and broken)

How to avoid these as much as possible is:

  1. take jewelry off always before getting in water and especially before showering, washing, or applying body products
  2. store in a cool, dry, and dark place
  3. travel with it in a protected bag, or even better, box

Here are some more details about the specific elements of your jewelry, what they're made of, and how to make sure they have a long life with you!

CORN SEED GEMS

Coated in a non-toxic, food-safe, BPA-free coating with a hardness similar to quartz, your new corn gems are living & sensitive beings. The more exposed to the elements, the quicker the gems will lose their color vibrancy and may break. With time & wear, small gold-plated loops turn silver. Do not polish the gems, gem cap, or loop with polishing cloth as that has micro-abrasives in it.

BRASS EARRINGS

Store: It can be tempting to display your beautiful earrings, but to protect their color, store them in clear pouch with anti-tarnish sticker.

Wear: Re-polish brass with yellow polishing cloth before wearing to bring back clear gold color. If they have darker stains, you can remove carefully with dawn soap, vinegar and baking soda, or barkeeper's friend.

BODY CHAIN

Wear: Same as Gold-Filled.

Store: Will tangle easily. Take off slowly, close clasps, and spread on cloth. When completely dry, roll & tie closed.

GOLD-FILLED

Wear: Chain and hypoallergenic hooks are durable gold color that is highly tarnish-resistant. Can get wet but will lose luster. Can polish with polishing cloth.

Store: When completely dry, put in clear pouch with anti-tarnish sticker.
